The New York Cosmos have agreed to a transfer that sends Eric Calvillo to the San Jose Earthquakes. After the United States U-21 starlet’s breakout season where he scored three goals, he will be moving from the Cosmos to the MLS side where hopefully he can play in front of more eyeballs and break into the national team.
Of course, Cosmos fans will never forget his goal against Miami FC last July, the winner of the Cosmos Play of the Year
Cosmos COO Eric Stover said the following of Calvillo’s move in the club’s official statement:
Calvillo himself thanked the Cosmos faithful in a personal statement following his transfer.
Once again, it's unfortunate that another prolific Cosmo is leaving the club, but as a 2018 situation cannot be guaranteed it makes sense for everyone involved. On a lighter note, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to sign Calvillo in FIFA Career mode soon. EA better give him a high potential, he’s done a lot of great things with in New York. But in all seriousness, I hope he continues to find success in San Jose and does Cosmos supporters proud.
