Cosmos Recover Point with Cardiac Comeback

Marquez giveth and Marquez taketh away

@NYCosmos

In a midweek showdown with the Spring Champions, New York was able to snag a point from Miami FC. The Cosmos drew first blood when Bledi Bardic tapped in a cross laid off by Dejan Jakovic. After scoring, New York looked surprisingly in control against Miami, looking comfortable on the ball. However, Miami was able to swing the momentum before halftime with a set piece goal put in by Jamie Chavez.

The Cosmos appeared to have retaken the lead with a Pablo Vranjican header, but for some reason that I cannot fully understand,the goal was waved off. Miami took advantage of the call and earned a lead of their own, capitalizing on a botched clearance from Javi Marquez. The Catalan midfielder made up for his mistake with an assist flicked in hockey-style by Pablo Vranjican to tie the game. The tie wouldn’t last for long, as minutes late Chavez went far-post to complete his hattrick to give Miami the lead going into extra time. For the first time this season, the Cosmos were able to go Cardic again. Marquez nabbed New York a point, curling his shot through the smoke set off by Miami Ultras moments before.

This was a match of highs and lows for the New York Originals. Although they faced a depleted Miami side, losing the likes of Poku and Rennella. Unfortunately, because of the impending megastorm, the Ricardo Silva stadium was understandably empty. The Cosmos got a much needed point in order to maintain the slim gap they have on NCFC. Hopefully New York and Miami can meet in what could be the last NASL final and give the matchup we all want to see.

The Cosmos’ match against PRFC this Sunday was postponed due to the impending Hurricane Irma. For now their next scheduled match is against the Jacksonville Armada on September 17.
