Just a couple of days after the Cosmos mutually part ways with Kalif Alhassan, midfielder Walter Restrepo has also departed from the club. Restrepo has been signed by one of Alhassan’s former clubs, the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Details of his contract were not released as a result of the United Soccer League’s club and league policy.
Restrepo did his duty for New York. In 2015, he scored three goals and recorded five helpers as the Cosmos won their second Soccer Bowl in just three years. In 13 games this season, he has recorded two goals and as many assists. There’s more information on Restrepo here:
In other news, FC Dallas have received Jimmy Maurer on a short term loan from the Cosmos. Maurer is to cover for Jesse Gonzalez, who Bruce Arena has called up to the US National Team for the Gold Cup. Maurer should be back for the Fall Season opener as the tournament only goes until July 26.
It isn’t the first time an MLS squad has come for Maurer’s service. Back in 2011, Maurer was signed to a one-game contract for the New York Red Bulls after both their keepers were unavailable.
The Cosmos kick off against Valencia tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET. Check out Michael Chiara’s preview of the match right here on Twice A Cosmo.
What a crazy transfer window it’s been thus far. Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wanted to leave Real Madrid, Neymar has been recently linked with a move to PSG, and AC Milan are going big on the market in hopes to return to their former glory.
