Cosmos to begin three-match home stand

New York Cosmos (3rd in NASL, 4-4-1, 16 points)

vs.

FC Edmonton (8th in NASL, 2-1-6, 7 points)

The Cosmos look to keep grabbing points as they face FC Edmonton, who currently sit at the bottom of the table. In their last match, the Cosmos beat North Carolina FC 1-0 which moved them to third in the league. Jacksonville holds a one-goal advantage over the Cosmos which keeps the Originals from second place.

Even though last game ended at 1-0, the Cosmos definitely seemed to control the game. With 53.2% possession, the Cosmos were able to create 14 chances. New York could have done more damage had it not been for some good stops from NCFC keeper Brian Sylvestre.

With that being said, I fully expect the full three points from this game. Edmonton has only taken one of their last five games. Plus, Brian Holt has been playing very well for the injured Jimmy Maurer. He bailed the Cosmos out of their friendly in Saudi Arabia and earned a clean sheet against North Carolina. If the Cosmos can establish the pace early on, we might see them in second place soon.

In other news, Jakovic, Ochieng, Menjívar, and Herrera have been called up to represent their respective nations. All of their international friendlies will take place next week. Ochieng will represent Kenya. Defender Dejan Jakovic will play for Canada. Both Herrera and Menjívar will be playing for El Salvador. You can get more of a description here:

The match will take place today at 7:30 p.m. ET. You can catch the game on the MSG Networks and on ESPN3.

Match Prediction: Cosmos win 2-0
