In a rematch of last week’s matchup, the New York Cosmos split points with North Carolina FC. The Cosmos started the match off strong with a goal from Irvin Herrera. However, NCFC were able to counter quickly with an unbelievable first time volley from Billy Schuler. It appeared that the Cosmos were able to come back with another score from Herrera, but the goal was incorrectly ruled offside. A free kick goal from Lance Liang was able to give NCFC the lead. Fortunately, New York was able to pull the score level when Kalif Alhassan scored his first goal of the season.

Over the course of the last week, the Cosmos have earned four points, with a win, loss, and draw respectively. Although anything is possible, it looks like a Spring Season Championship may be out of reach for New York. They currently sit seven points behind Miami FC with only five games left. A lack of depth in the squad due in part to the two suspensions accrued on Wednesday really hurt the Cosmos. Home form continues to be an issue for the Cosmos, who have only won one game in Brooklyn this season. Even if a Spring Championship could be out of sight, the Cosmos should do their best to stay in contention for the Combined Season standings, and then try to improve the squad in the summer.
The Cosmos play again this Friday at MCU against Puerto Rico FC.
