Today at their open practice, the Cosmos announced the signing of striker Amauri. He joins the club as a free agent after spending the second half of the 2016 NASL season with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.

With Ft. Lauderdale, Amauri scored 5 goals in 13 appearances. One of his best moments included scoring a fantastic bicycle kick against the Ottawa Fury. Before his stint in the NASL he had played for many years in the Serie A playing for clubs such as Juventus, Chievo, Palermo, Fiorentina, and Torino.

In the club’s official press release Amauri said the following on his move to the Cosmos:

While not necessarily the flashy number nine fans were hoping for, Amauri could be a great depth signing for New York. He’s shown the ability to get it done in his limited NASL appearances with the Strikers. It will be interesting to see what sort of role the 36 year old will play for the Cosmos this season.
