Cosmos fail to find winner as fans protest Sunil Gulati

After the US failed to qualify for Russia, Cosmos Country showed its dissatisfaction.

In what seems to be a regular occurrence this season, the Cosmos play to another draw, this time with FC Edmonton. Despite a myriad of chances, New York wasn’t able to find the back of the net, especially in part to Tyson Farago’s five saves on the day. The one time New York did put the ball past Farago, the goal was disallowed for an apparent foul by Carlos Mendes. I’m not so sure about the call, but you can judge for yourself below. The refs were definitely a little spotty on Saturday. Plaudits for this match goes to Emmanuel Ledesma who created four chances while coming close to scoring himself.

Although New York didn’t get the three points, they hold on to a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth. One goal is all that separates the Cosmos from the Jacksonville Armada, making their matchup against them on the 22nd all the more important.

Cosmos Country was in full force this weekend. Reported attendance was amon Protests against USSF and especially Sunil Gulati were in full force after the United States National Team failed to qualify for next summer’s World Cup. Rocco Commisso, who has been heavily critical of Gulati, gave a great interview at half-time on his qualms with US Soccer. It’s great to see the Rocco and the whole Cosmos organization being much more vocal than in past season about their dissatisfaction with the USSF. The United States not qualifying for Russia has opened a lot of discussion about the future of the sport in the country, and the Cosmos intend to make their voice heard.

The Cosmos play next in Florida against Puerto Rico FC this Wednesday.
