Juan Arango, Jairo Arrieta named to NASL Team of the Week

New York Cosmos

On Wednesday, the North American Soccer League released their Team of the Week for the first week of the 2016 season, and a pair of New York Cosmos players were recognized for their outstanding performances. Both Juan Arango and Jairo Arrieta were honored by the league following exceptional week one showings, and the league had the following to say about the duo:\

Juan Arango (New York Cosmos) – The debut for the Venezuelan international couldn’t have gone any better. He scored twice in a matter of minutes in the latter stages of the first half to lift the Cosmos to a 3-0 victory over Ottawa Fury FC. He also claimed Player of the Week honors for his performance.

Jairo Arrieta (New York Cosmos) – The forward provided a strong debut for New York and was involved in both first-half goals. His pass found Arango for the match’s opener and it was his shot that was parried into Arango’s pass for the second goal.

The NASL Team of the Week was similar to ours, with six of the eleven players appearing on both lists. The full group selected by the league is as follows:
