When the New York Cosmos kick off the 2016 North American Soccer league season, they'll look considerably different than they did when they ended the 2015 campaign. Gone are Raul, Marcos Senna, Walter Restrepo, and Leo Fernandes. Roversio is out injured. Yasmani Duk, Michael Lahoud, David Ochieng, Juan Arango, Yohandry Orozco, Gabriel Farfan, and Niko Kranjcar have all joined. While the club may be significantly better overall than they were when they hoisted the title last fall, their style will likely be different, and it will take some time for the fans to get to know the new faces.
On the other side of the pitch, Ottawa Fury FC will look nothing like they did when the 2015 season concluded. The fall season champions have been dismantled, as NASL rivals (or even a USL side) with more money swept in and gutted the roster. In their place, we'll likely see a more athletic and entertaining side, but one unlikely to have the sort of success that the Fury had last season.
The championship rematch will be the final kickoff of opening weekend, and fans of many NASL clubs, not just the Fury and Cosmos, will likely be tuning in to see how both sides look in 2016. Here's everything you need to know ahead of kickoff:
