On Wednesday, any remaining questions about how out-of-market fans of NASL clubs would be able to watch their favorite teams were answered by the league. We already knew that ONE World Sports would continue to air a Game of the Week in addition to their coverage of the New York Cosmos, and early in the day we received confirmation of the league's new television deal with beIN Sports. Now, the league has confirmed that they've extended their agreement with ESPN3, who will continue to stream matches, with over 100 in total to be shown throughout the 2016 season.
With the ESPN3 agreement, American fans should have the ability to watch every single NASL match regardless of their home market. Fewer matches will be streamed this season on via ESPN, but that appears to be because of the agreements with ONE and beIN, with ESPN simply picking up the remainder of the league's offerings. For Canadian fans, these matches being streamed on ESPN3 can be viewed on the NASL.com.
In a bit of an ironic twist, Wednesday's announcements mean that it will actually be easier for American fans to follow an out of market NASL club this season than it is to follow an out of market MLS franchise, despite the league's division two sanctioning. Progress...
