On Wednesday, New York Cosmos Head Coach Gio Savarese hinted that we might be hearing confirmation of a Niko Kranjcar signing soon. On Friday morning, the Cosmos confirmed the deal, announcing that they have reached an agreement with the player on a short term deal, likely lasting for the NASL spring season, and giving the player the option to return to Europe in the summer should he so choose.

Gio was obviously excited about the signing, and had the following comments in the club's release:

"Niko is not only a world class player, but also a fantastic human being. He has elite vision and technical ability with the ball at his feet, and we’re confident he can bring creativity to our approach in the attacking half of the field."

Kranjcar has been with the Cosmos since they returned to training in January, and has traveled with the club for all of their preseason matches thus far. Kranjcar, along with other new signings like Juan Arango, Yohandry Orozco, and Yasmani Duk, should give Savarese the best attacking unit he's had since the reboot in 2013.

For an international spot to be open for Niko, one of the seven current international players either had to be granted a green card, or removed from the roster. We've reached out to the club for more details, and will share them when we can.
