With a strong looking starting lineup and no remaining international roster spots, the New York Cosmos appear to be at the point of the offseason where any further moves would be intended to provide depth at a number of positions. On Friday, the club announced a move that should do just that, acquiring former Chivas USA and Philadelphia Union player Gabriel Farfan on loan.

Farfan, who is currently under contract with Chiapas FC, can fill a number of roles in defense and the midfield, and should provide cover at a number of positions in which the reigning NASL champions were a bit thin. Head Coach Gio Savarese made sure to note that versatility in his comments about the new addition:

"He is a versatile player that can compete in many different positions for us. He brings with him valuable experience having played in North America and at the top level in Mexico. We welcome him to the club."

The 27-year old is the sort of valuable bench piece that can cover multiple positions for the club, and will likely be a regular fixture in the 18-man squad as a result.  Welcome to the family, Gabriel.
