Could the Gooch be making a comeback with the Cosmos? The former United States international center back was apparently training with the Cosmos. Cosmos defender Kyle Mcturk put up an Instagram featuring the thirty four year old. In addition, Onweyu had dinner with Cosmos coach Alecko Eskandarian and his family.

Great to have my brother @OguchiOnyewu5 in town. Been a part of the Eskandarian family for over 20 years now. pic.twitter.com/Jp942zkd1a

It’s easy to get excited about the possibly of him signing for the Cosmos, but let’s not get carried away. There’s a good chance the free agent was training with the Cosmos to keep up his fitness. That being said, it would make sense for the Cosmos to potentially sign Onweyu next season. Roversio has had injury problems and there’s no guarantee that the thirty-five year old Mendes doesn’t retire at the end of the season. Having a former US international to teach the young center backs on the roster could be valuable too. Plus he’s won Zlatan Ibrahimovic respect via a fistfight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cosmos become Onyewu’s first US team, but we’ll just have to wait it out on this one.
