New York Cosmos announce a move, re-sign goalkeeper Brian Holt

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

It has been a slow start to the offseason for the New York Cosmos, who haven't yet added a new player to the roster ahead of the 2016 season. While that's certainly surprising,t o say the least, the club has been very good about retaining players that impressed last season, and on Monday, announced that they'd be bringing back yet another member of the title-winning squad.

The club announced on its website that an agreement has been reached with goalkeeper Brian Holt to bring the player back for the 2016 season, though as always, specifics about the contract were not disclosed. Head Coach and Sporting Director Gio Savarese had the following to say about the decision to bring the former Creighton man back for a second season in New York:

"Brian is an excellent goalkeeper. Last season he showed his ability on a constant basis, and he earned his spot on this team. He has worked hard to be here."

Holt made a pair of appearances for the Cosmos in 2015, on in a 3-2 victory over the Carolina RailHawks, the other as a substitute against the Cuba National Team. He held his own in both showings, and will be a fine third choice option behind Jimmy Maurer and Kyle Zobeck.
