Miami FC signs Cuban international who faced the New York Cosmos in 2015

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Miami FC continues to work on their squad ahead of their inaugural season, and on Friday, the club made a little bit of noise with their latest signing. They've added Cuban international Jorge Luis Corrales to the roster, a left back who played against the New York Cosmos in Havana last season.

Head coach Alessandro Nesta had the following to say about the player that the club just signed:

"Corrales is one of the most driven players I’ve had the opportunity of working with. He impressed me in the open and invitational tryouts, so it’s a pleasure to bring him on board. He has such a passion for the sport, and it’s always refreshing to see someone with so much dedication take their talents to the field."

Being honest, there was very little about the Cuba national team that impressed me on the pitch when the Cosmos played them last summer, and the scoreline at halftime made it clear just how wide the gulf in class between the two sides was. Then again, I was more taking in the experience as opposed to scouting the opposition, so I'm probably not the best judge of what Corrales can do based on that single match.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Corrales fares in the United States, playing against better competition on a regular basis, as I'm sure the NASL will provide a sterner test than anything the player has faced in Cuba. Anyway, since we're talking about the Cosmos' historic trip to Cuba, here are the highlights of the match for you to enjoy again:
