Billy Forbes finds a new home, joins Rayo OKC

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

When the San Antonio Scorpions owner sold their stadium and put their future in doubt, my first thoughts had nothing at all to do with the club or its fans. Instead, I wondered if this was an opportunity for the Cosmos to sweep in and sign their most exciting young player, Billy Forbes.

Alas, it wasn't to be, as Rayo OKC announced on Thursday that they've reached an agreement to sign the former Scorpions star ahead of the 2016 season. The move will re-unite Forbes with Head Coach Alen Marcina, who worked with the player while in charge of San Antonio. Marcina had the following to say about his new addition:

"We are getting one of the best attacking players in the NASL with Billy Forbes. I had the fortune to coach him in his first two seasons as a professional down in San Antonio, and it’s a blessing to be able to bring him to Oklahoma City."

Forbes is yet another impressive signing in what is looking like a very good Rayo OKC squad, one which might even be capable of making a push for a postseason berth in their inaugural season. If nothing else, they look to be a far better run organization than the Scorpions or the Atlanta Silverbacks ever were, which should benefit the league in the long run.
