While the New York Cosmos have finally started making a few moves, their competition in the North American Soccer League* continues to strengthen as well. This week, both Indy Eleven FC and Rayo OKC announced moves that caught fans' attention.
*Except for Ottawa, who just wave goodbye to just about everyone that played well for them last season
On Thursday, Rayo followed up the hiring of Alen Marcina with their first three player signings. The club announced deals with Sebastian Velasquez, Wellington Paeckart, and Rauwshan McKenzie, presumably the first of many announcements that will be coming soon.
Velasquez, a 5'7" midfielder, joins from NYCFC, and spent three seasons with Real Salt Lake before joining the expansion franchise. Paeckart, another midfielder, has spent some time in Fort Lauderdale with the Strikers, while McKenzie joins from Atlanta, after spending many years in Major League Soccer.
Meanwhile, Indy sped up the deconstruction of the fall season champions by poaching Colin Falvey from their ranks. The signing should help shore up the the Eleven's defensive unit, while simultaneously pushing Ottawa toward the bottom of the league.
