The New York Cosmos have done a nice job this season of locking up many of their important players to contract extensions before their deals had the chance to expire in the winter. On Wednesday, the club announced the most recent recipient of a new deal, forward Lucky Mkosana.
Lucky joined this past offseason from the Tampa Bay Rowdies, presumably on a one-year deal. After starting the season as a backup to incumbent Mads Stokkelien, the forward made the most of his early opportunities on the pitch, and has been one of the most important players for Gio Savarese's side as they sit comfortably atop the NASL combined table.
Unsurprisingly, Savarese was elated with the announcement, and had the following to say:
"Lucky has been a tremendous addition to the team. Working with him daily you can see how far he's come and the progress he's made. He's added a real spark to offense this season and has done everything we've asked of him."
Personally, I'm thrilled with this news, as Mkosana has been a true joy to watch this season, and has made the Cosmos' attack look far more potent than it had in either the 2013 or 2014 campaigns. Here's hoping he's even better going forward.
