The Cosmos crashed out of the US Open Cup in the fifth round for the second consecutive season on Wednesday, losing 4-1 to the New York Red Bulls. Unlike last season when the Cosmos could feel hard done by due to some truly head scratching decisions from the referee, in 2015, the boys in green (who were wearing blue) just weren't as sharp as their MLS rivals.
Defensively, the Cosmos were a bit of a mess on Wednesday, and Lucky Mkosana acknowledged that the team needed to cut out the miscues if they wanted to advance:
In addition to Mkosana, head coach Gio Savarese had the following to say about the match:
It's a shame that the result turned out the way that it did, but at least we don't have to wait long for the NASL season to get back underway. The Cosmos will kick off the 20-match fall season at home, against Indy Eleven on Sunday.
