It seems that all of New York is prepping to turn out for the USWNT victory tour around the city, with both MLS sides and Sky Blue FC, the most local NWSL team, and the leagues all making an appearance. All of New York, you see, save the Cosmos.
Empire of Soccer is reporting that the Cosmos were offered a spot in Friday's victory parade, but declined the invitation out of respect to the women's national team. The Cosmos were the only North American Soccer League side to receive an invite, while the league itself was not invited to participate.
I personally think this is fair play by the Cosmos. It's pretty interesting to see that a team who struggles to get eyeballs on their brand is avoiding a chance to advertise. I certainly understand allowing the victory parade to be just that, however, even though this could be taken the wrong way by some.
The parade begins Friday at 11:00 A.M. If you're in the city and want to cheer on the newly crowned world champions, the parade starts at Battery Park and makes its way up to City Hall down Broadway.
