New York Red Bulls vs. New York Cosmos: Preview and how to watch

Round two is about to begin. Last season when these two sides met, the New York Cosmos dominated the New York Red Bulls, who were probably left somewhat flattered by the 3-0 scoreline. This season, they'll meet one round later in the competition, with a matchup against the Philadelphia Union awaiting the winner as it did in 2014.

For the Cosmos, this meeting will likely provide far more of a challenge than the match last season did. Mike Petke ran out a group without his best players due to the unforgiving turf at Hofstra last year, but new coach Jesse Marsch sounds as if he'll put out his strongest possible lineup, at home, and on grass.

The Cosmos will also field a much stronger group than they did in last season's matchup, in part due to an improved squad overall, and in part due to a lack of injuries at the moment. Both Marcos Senna and Roversio look to be fit for their first ever US Open Cup match, and should relish the opportunity to play on a soccer specific, grass surface of a higher standard than they see in the NASL.

As with every New York derby, this should be an exciting match, and the winner will have some bragging rights for the next 12 months because of it. Let's hope those bragging rights stay with the boys in green.
