New York Cosmos 2 - NYCFC 2 (4-3 on penalties): Highlights

The New York Cosmos advanced to the fifth round of the US Open Cup on Wednesday with a comeback win over New York City Football Club. The match was every bit as memorable as the Cosmos fourth round victory over the New York Red Bulls last season, though the result was in doubt for considerably longer.

NYCFC scored the first two goals of the match, before Leo Fernandes and Lucky Mkosana found the back of the net to send the match to extra time. Though both sides had chances in the next 30 minutes, neither side was able to put one away, and it came down to penalty kicks.

Like the match, Gio Savarese's side got off to a slow start with their penalties, With both Hunter Freeman and Leo Fernandes missing chances following Mads Stokkelien's converted attempt. Man of the match Jimmy Maurer stepped up huge, though, with some clutch saves in the fifth and sixth round of spot kicks to send the Cosmos through.

The win sees the Cosmos advance to the fifth round of the competition, the Cosmos will learn their next opponent on Thursday morning.
