The New York Cosmos continued their winning ways at home on Sunday, defeating FC Edmonton by a 4-2 score to open up a five point gap atop the North American Soccer League table. The goalscorers included Carlos Mendes with a brace, Raul Gonzalez, and Lucky Mkosana, who started up front again.
While the offensive output on Mother's Day was impressive, the Eddies became the first team all season to put two balls in the Cosmos net. Tomi Ameobi's penalty in the 15th minute put an end to Jimmy Maurer's scoreless streak, which wound up lasting 368 minutes.
The victory means the Cosmos now have a five point cushion over both the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Jacksonville Armada, with just four games left to play in the NASL spring season, Jacksonville does have a game in hand at the moment, having already gone through their bye week, while the Cosmos still have theirs to go.
