Unbeaten Cosmos in great shape with the early table

While it's still just three weeks into the 2015 NASL season, the New York Cosmos already find themselves in a very comfortable position. The boys in green have taken seven points from their first three matches, and already sit two points clear atop the spring season table:

While it's fun to see the Cosmos at the top, it's probably more notable that the two clubs who finished above New York last season have combined for just one point in their first two matches. That early head start isn't something that Gio Savarese or his players were likely to be counting on, but I'm sure it's welcome news.

With just seven matches to go, the next three weeks could put the club in a fantastic position to lock up a home playoff match before the start of June. The club's next three matches come against Atlanta, Ottawa, and Edmonton, three opponents who are currently three points or less behind, but represent opposition that the Cosmos should beat more often than not. Managing to take nine points from that stretch could see the Cosmos with a cushion similar to the one Chelsea currently have in the Premier League, and would certainly give them quite a margin for error with the U.S. Open Cup approaching.

If the club can keep their good form going, the brutal finish to the spring season featuring Carolina, San Antonio, Minnesota United, and finally Jacksonville won't look nearly so daunting. Here's hoping they do just that.
