The New York Cosmos won their home opener in convincing fashion, beating the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-0. A modern-era record crowd of 12,550 was on hand to watch the fantastic display, and should all have gone home happy after the match.
Marcos Senna got things going from the penalty spot, following a Rowdies handball in the box. Leo Fernandes then finished the scoring with his second goal of the season, and for the third straight match, new signing Walter Restreo managed to notch an assist.
Here's what the goal scorers had to say following the victory:
With the win and the Carolina loss at home to Atlanta, the Cosmos move onto the top spot in the NASL table. Up next, the Cosmos will head back out on the road, where they'll be taking on the Silverbacks. They'll next be at home against the Ottawa Fury, in a match to be played at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
