Reports in Italy on Thursday are suggesting that Daniele De Rossi will leave Roma when his current contract expires in 2016, and that his destination will be to a club in New York City. While Manchester City NYCFC might seem like the most logical destination just based on his links to the Premier League in the not-too-distant past, Calciomercato is reporting that the interested parties at present include both the Cosmos and New York Red Bulls.
Frankly, De Rossi would be a great signing for any North American club, as his skillset is the sort that will likely age very well, and his versatility is something that any coach would love. He's also got the sort of leadership skills that most organizations absolutely love, so if he's interested in heading to the Big Apple, I can't imagine the Cosmos wouldn't at least touch base with the player.
That said, the summer of 2016 is still a long way off, and stadium situations as well as the MLS CBA will likely make the New York soccer landscape look considerably different in 12 months than it does right now.
