For the second time in the modern era of the North American Soccer League, the New York Cosmos will be playing in the title match. After beating the Fort Lauderdale Strikers by a 2-1 score on Saturday at MCU Park, the 'Mos have earned the right to host the winner of tomorrow's match between Ottawa Fury FC and Minnesota United.
Things didn't start well for Gio Savarese's side, as despite controlling the bulk of the possession early on, the Cosmos fell behind 1-0 when PC found the back of the net. Fortunately, they managed to level the score before the half, when Gaston Cellerino slotted a deflection into a wide open net to send it to the break 1-1.
The second half started much the same as the first, with New York looking the better side for most of the contest, though creating little of note. When Raul did find himself free in front of goal, however, he made no mistake, slotting the game winner into the far corner, and giving the Strikers' keeper no chance.
We'll now have to wait to see who prevails tomorrow, but we know for sure that we'll be at home, against whomever wins that match. Fortunately, we'll get to see Raul and Marcos Senna take the pitch one more time before the duo hang up their boots for good.
