The New York Cosmos scored a big win on Saturday over the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and wound up as the top seed in the North American Soccer League playoffs as a result. That performance landed a pair of Cosmos players on the NASL's Team of the Week, here's what the league's website had to say about that duo:
Rovérsio – The Brazilian center back has been beset with injuries this season, but he made his presence felt on the final weekend of the Fall Season. Rovérsío helped shut down the Tampa Bay Rowdies as the Cosmos kept a clean sheet, and by virtue of a 2-0 win, claimed the No. 1 seed in the postseason
Raúl – Shining in key moments has never been a problem for the Spanish star, and he did so once again for the Cosmos. With New York needing goals to offset Ottawa’s goal differential, Raúl scored the game’s opener, which set the Cosmos on their way. On the same night he was honored, he was lively throughout the match to help New York claim the No. 1 seed. Raúl also earned Player of the Week honors.
As always, congratulations to both Roversio and Raul, who certainly deserve the recognition they received. Hopefully, the pair can replicate their impressive performances on Saturday, and lead the club to another win.
