The New York Cosmos secured home field advantage throughout the North American Soccer League playoffs on Saturday, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies by a 2-0 scoreline. The winner in that one was scored by Raul, who was recognized on Monday as the league's player of the week following his excellent performance.
The Spaniard is retiring at the end of the 2015 season, but still has at least one more match to play before he hangs up his boots. He spoke about the goal, and the team's focus ahead of the semifinal match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers:
"It was a great feeling to be able to score in the last game of the regular season. The whole team worked hard to get a win and finish on top. We’re completely focused and looking forward to the semifinal this weekend."
It was awfully exciting to see Raul put one away in his final regular season match, and hopefully, he'll still score a few more big ones before he calls it a career. I can't think of a more fitting way for the Real Madrid legend to go out.
