The New York Cosmos haven't been lighting the world on fire during the North American Soccer League fall season, and on Sunday, the boys in green lost even more ground on the top overall spot in the combined table. The hosts were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Atlanta Silverbacks, in another contest in which they fell behind early, and couldn't score enough to earn three points.
New York dominated the early going, yet managed to concede on the first real chance that Atlanta created. That's becoming an unwelcome pattern, and it's been putting Gio Savarese's side in early hole far too often.
New York kept creating chances, but in the end, needed an own goal to finally beat the Silverbacks' keeper. I'm sure Savarese will take the goals any way he can get them, however, especially as it secured one point, keeping his side on the fringe of the race for the top spot in the combined table.
