Ottawa win over San Antonio, move back atop NASL combined table

New York Cosmos

Ottawa Fury FC took another step toward finishing as the top seed for the North American Soccer League playoffs on Sunday, as the defeated the San Antonio Scorpions by a 1-0 score at home. It was a typically organized affair from Ottawa, and while it was far from the sort of open, exciting soccer that most neutral fans tend to love, but it was effective, and has the Fury within a single point of clinching the fall season title.

Ottawa's victory means that the Cosmos are now second in the combined table, sitting two points behind their Canadian rivals. The Fury also now have a one goal advantage in GD, though should they drop the two points needed in order to bring the tiebreaker into play, there's a very good chance that difference would be erased.

The Fury win also means that Minnesota United have virtually no chance of finishing as the top seed for the second straight year, making it a two horse race for home field advantage throughout the NASL playoffs. The Cosmos finish with San Antonio and Tampa Bay, while Ottawa has Jacksonville and Atlanta to close out their schedule.
