With the end of the season comes awards season, and as has been the case over the past few seasons, the North American Soccer League is asking for input from the fans and media in their end of the season awards. For Coach of the Year, the list of nominees is fairly straightforward, as all eleven men currently in charge of a NASL club are eligible for the award.
Among those eleven finalists, New York head coach Gio Savarese can be found. Savarese has been in charge of the 'Mos since the reboot in 2013, leading the club to it's sixth title in their illustrious history, and helping to bring in European standouts such as Marcos Senna and Raul.
This season, Savarese led the boys in green to the spring season title, and a home semifinal match which comes as a result. He was the only NASL manager to win a match in the US Open Cup (he did so twice), and led the Cosmos to a comfortable victory over the Cuba national team. He's also got the club atop the NASL combined table at the moment, though much could change in the next several weeks, with both Minnesota United and Ottawa Fury FC a single point behind.
