The New York Cosmos announced on Wednesday that they've failed to reach a contract agreement with forward Hans Denissen for the 2015 season. The Dutchman spent just one injury-plagued season in New York, where knee issues prevented him from having any sort of meaningful impact with the club.
After being named to the NASL Best XI following his 2013 season with the San Antonio Scorpions, New York apparently blew the doors off of offers from both the Scorpions and FC Edmonton, to bring the attacker to New York. The Cosmos had been the best defensive team in the NASL during their title-winning 2013 campaign, but had struggled to find the back of the net with any sort of regularity. Most fans thought the additions of both Denissen and Mads Stokkelien would solve those issues in 2014, but the scoring issues continued to plague the club during the disappointing 2014 season.
At the moment, the scoring load will mostly fall on the shoulders of Stokkelien (who extended on Wednesday) and new signing Raul Gonzalez, but as evidenced by the club's failed pursuit of Samuel Eto'o, they're probably still in the market for upgrades should the opportunity present itself. Best of luck in the future, Hans.
