On Wednesday, the New York Cosmos announced that they had reached an agreement with forward Mads Stokkelien on a new contract for the 2015 season. The 24-year old Norwegian had some excellent moments in 2014, though he also disappeared for large stretches and was a bit frustrating with his misses at times.
With Raul in the fold for 2015, there was always a bit of a question as to whether or not Mads would have a place with the club. He offers a very different skill set to that of Gonzalez, so it's not hard to believe he'll still have a large role to play even if he's not a starter in virtually every match.
All told, I was pleased with the threat provided by Mads last season, and hopefully working with Raul full-time will result in the player improving, and producing more moments like his goal of the season in the U.S. Open Cup match against the New York Red Bulls. I'm excited to see what he can do without the pressure of being the Cosmos' primary goal scoring threat.
