New York Red Bulls acquire former Cosmos keeper Kyle Reynish from the Chicago Fire

The New York Red Bulls announced a trade for a new goalkeeper on Tuesday, which isn't the sort of news that would usually draw the attention of New York Cosmos fans. In this case it will, however, as that backup goalkeeper is former Cosmos player Kyle Reynish.

Reynish won the 2013 NASL Golden Glove, sitting behind the Cosmos defense that led the club to the NASL title. He impressed enough in his spell with the club that he signed on as a backup to Sean Johnson last season, though he only appeared in a single match for the Chicago Fire. The Red Bulls wound up swapping a 2016 3rd round draft pick for Reynish.

The Red Bulls created a need for a new backup after loaning Ryan Meara to Manchester City NYCFC earlier in the offseason. Kyle will likely begin the season backing up Luis Robles, who has spent the last two season establishing himself as an above-average MLS keeper.
