New York Cosmos forward Paulo Mendes loaned to Metropolitanos FC

Mike Stobe

The Cosmos have made a roster move on Thursday, agreeing to send Brazilian forward Paulo Mendes on loan. The forward will be joining Venezuelan club Metropolitanos FC, where he'll hopefully get more minutes than he was seeing in New York.

Combined with the cancellation of Alessandro Noselli's contract earlier in the day, this opens up two international roster spots for the club to use. Gio Savarese had hinted that the club were close were close to another signing on Tuesday, and with the pair of openings created on Thursday, I'd expect one to be announced in relatively short order.

Hopefully, Mendes will excel during his time in South America, and will have a role with the Cosmos going forward. He was one of our best attacking options during the 2013 fall season, and scored several timely goals as the Cosmos distanced themselves from the field to earn a berth in the Soccer Bowl.
