The Cosmos extended defender Hunter Gorskie on Thursday, and announced another contract extension on Friday. This time, the recipient was striker Stefan Dimitrov. As usual, specifics of the deal were not disclosed.
Dimitrov started regularly during the 2013 fall season, but with the arrival of Mads Stokkelien, he's taken on more of a backup role in 2014. With the way Stokkelien has been playing of late, it's hard to imagine that's going to change an awful lot unless someone suffers a dip in form. The return to health of Hans Denissen could also further limit his involvement.
Head coach Gio Savarese had the following to say about Dimitrov:
"Stefan has been an important component of the rebuild of the New York Cosmos and we are happy he’s staying with us. I’m looking forward to his continuing contribution on the field."
The Cosmos next take the field on Saturday, when they host the San Antonio Scorpions.
