The Cosmos have announced this morning that they've come to terms with defender Hunter Gorskie on a contract extension, though as usual, the specifics of the deal were not disclosed. Gorskie has been seen as valuable depth by head coach Gio Savarese, who reiterated that with his comments after announcing the extension:
"Hunter Gorskie is a player that has provided valuable depth and versatility on our team over the past year. He’s able to play a number of positions across the back line and we are very pleased he’ll be staying with us."
Gorskie seems pretty pleased with the extension as well, and added the following:
"I’m happy to get this contract signed so that I can concentrate on the upcoming Fall Season. Winning the NASL championship last season was a great achievement but the team is focused on defending our title."
The defense of that 2013 title gets back underway this weekend, when the Cosmos host the San Antonio Scorpions. At present, New York is in a very commanding position in terms of securing a playoff spot, but avenging the home loss from the spring campaign would do a good deal to strengthen that position.
