The New York Cosmos no know who their next opponent will be in the U.S. Open Cup. The Philadelphia Union managed to defeat Harrisburg City Islanders last evening in their fourth round match, and will now host the Cosmos in the fifth round on July 24, 2014. Had the Islanders managed to win, the match would have been hosted at St. John's by the Cosmos.
Things didn't go as smoothly as planned for the Union, who got their go-ahead goal in the second session of extra time via Andrew Wenger. Had the Islanders managed to hang on for those final few minutes, the contest would have gone to penalties.
The meeting will be the Cosmos' second consecutive match against a MLS side, having trashed the New York Red Bulls this past weekend. The squad should be a bit stronger for the meeting on the 24th as well, as all of Diomar Diaz, Roversio, Marcos Senna, and Hans Denissen are expected to be fit.
