US announces 23-man World Cup roster

The final squad for Brazil will surprise a few people

The 23-man squad that the United States will be taking to Brazil has been announced, and there were several big surprises there. The bulk of Jurgan Klinsmann's roster play their club football overseas, with the following 23 players making the cut:

GOALKEEPERS

Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS

DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Nürnberg), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)

MIDFIELDERS

Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

FORWARDS

Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

Most notably absent is Landon Donovan, the United States' all-time leading goalscorer. Also released from the squad were Maurice Edu, Terrence Boyd, Clarence Goodson, Michael Parkhurst, Joe Corona, and Brad Evans.
