Week four of the NASL season could shape the title race

Four different teams could find themselves topping the table after week four

Mike Stobe

All five NASL week four games will be played on Saturday, and if results go the Cosmos' way, they could find themselves back atop the league table. A win on Saturday would guarantee that the Cosmos' meeting with Minnesota United during week five will have top of the table implications though, regardless of what everyone else does during week four.

Currently, there are four clubs who could find themselves top of the table following this weekend, with several others that could find themselves right back in the mix if they took maximum points. Here's what we have on tap for Saturday night:

Atlanta Silverbacks vs. Ottawa Fury

Both Ottawa and Atlanta currently sit on three points, and both sides will need a win if they want to have any hopes of winning the spring season title. Both sides have been playing better of late, and both have been fairly entertaining this season. As the game is kicking off at the same time as Carolina/New York though, I can't imagine too many of you will be watching.

Carolina RailHawks vs. New York Cosmos

Until last weekend, Carolina were the only NASL team who had managed to defeat the Cosmos. This should be a good one, and we'll have a detailed preview up later on.

Minnesota United vs. Indy Eleven

Most expected Minnesota to be a pretty good side this season, but not too many expected them to be alone atop the table with maximum points. Meanwhile, Indy have shown flashes of some very good play, along with spells where they look like an expansion side. Here' hoping it's more of the former and less of the latter this weekend.

San Antonio Scorpions vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies

After dropping their opener to Minnesota, San Antonio have managed to win two matches in a row. The Scorpions struggled to some extent with the Silverbacks' wide open style of play, so it's not hard to imagine that Tampa Bay will give them some issues. Don't bet on a scoreless draw in this one.

FC Edmonton vs. Fort Lauderdale Strikers

The Strikers have a surprising six points from their first three games, while Edmonton have been about what everyone expected them to be. This might not be the most interesting game of the season, but it could be a big one if Fort Lauderdale manages to win.
