It's just one week into the NASL season, and already a New York Cosmos player has been named the NASL player of the week. It really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that Carlos Mendes too this week's award, as the center back is currently the league's leading scorer and was part of a clean sheet.
Mendes had the following to say after the game:
"It was a team effort and there was great service and I’m just happy we scored four goals. It was a great atmosphere and I hope the fans enjoyed our first game."
Head coach Gio Savarese had the following to say about Mendes after the match:
"We are very happy with Carlos' contribution of the two goals. I think he was the Man of the Match for what he did in the back more than the goals. It was a strong performance and we are happy to start off on the right foot."
Mendes will look to add to his league leading goal total Saturday in Edmonton, where the Cosmos will look to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
