Cosmos announce Hans Denissen signing

Denissen should help shore up a striker position that was a problem for most of 2013

On January 2, the Comos announced the signing of Hans Denissen. The Dutch striker spent the past two seasons with the San Antonio Scorpions, and was named to the 2013 NASL Best XI. He had the following to say about joining the club:

"I’m so excited to be joining the New York Cosmos. This is a club not only with a great history, but a great future, too. Having played against the Cosmos last season, I know this is a team that prides itself on playing an attractive style of attacking soccer. I’m really looking forward to joining this group."

Denissen struggled a bit in 2012, managing just five goals in 29 appearances for San Antonio. He was much better in 2013, scoring 13 times for the club.

The Cosmos struggled to find consistent production from their strikers for most of the 2013 fall season, and Denissen will likely step into the starting lineup immediately. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, Scorpions president Howard Cornfield was not happy with the move.
