Three players have agreed to new contracts, the New York Cosmos announced on Thursday. All of Sebastian Guenzatti, Hagop Chirishian, and Hunter Gorskie will return for the 2015 season. As per club policy the specifics of the deals were not disclosed.
Guenzatti was an important part of the 2014 squad, scoring four goals and assisting three more in 22 appearances. In total, he's taken the pitch for the Cosmos 32 times in his career, and scored five goals. He spent the majority of his time in 2014 covering the right flank, and will likely see even more time in that role with the loss of Jemal Johnson.
Gorskie had a somewhat lesser role in 2014 than he did in the club's first season, making only 13 appearances after starting eight times during the title winning campaign. He's a valuable squad player though, capable of starting anywhere along the back line as needed. Chirishian filled any number of attacking roles for the club after joining in 2013, and made 15 total appearances for the side during the 2014 season.
The club also announced that they had failed to reach an agreement with midfielder Joseph Nane. While Nane generally started on the bench when both Danny Szetela and Marcos Senna were healthy, he was used an awful lot during the 2014 season as the duo dealt with suspensions and injuries. His presence gave the Cosmos incredible depth in the center of the pitch, and replacing Nane will become one of the more important tasks Gio Savarese and company have to take care of this winter.
It's great to see the trio of Gorskie, Chirishian, and Guenzatti returning, and best of luck to Nane in the next stop of his career.
