The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced a pair of signings on Monday that should go a long way toward shoring up their defense. They addressed the right side of the defense with the addition of NASL best XI right back Darnell King, and shored up the center of their defense with center back Gale Agbossoumande.
King was snatched from the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, where the 24-year old has spent his entire professional career. 2014 was definitely the best season of his career, when he was honored as the best right back in the league at the end of the campaign*.
*I'd have gone with Cosmos fullback Hunter Freeman myself, but King was certainly excellent
Agbossoumande was once considered an elite prospect, making his first appearance for the United States U20 side when he was just 17-years old. His time with the U20 side coincided with that of Rowdies coach Thomas Rongen, who should be very familiar with the player as a result.
Gale has spent a bit of time in Germany, but spent the past season in MLS. He started the year with Toronto FC, but was shipped to Colorado midway through the 2014 campaign.
