Pele admitted to 'special care unit'

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

There's some unfortunate news coming out of Brazil this Thanksgiving day, as the greatest player to ever play professionally in the United States has been admitted to the hospital. Pele was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital on Monday to deal with a urinary tract infection, but after his condition became unstable, he was transferred to the special care unit.

The hospital was very clear that the Cosmos great had not been taken to the intensive care unit, as many outlets were reporting early Thursday morning. Pele had also been hospitalized just over two weeks ago, when he was dealing with kidney stones.

While the entire soccer world is surely hoping Pele is fine and heading home soon, he'll always hold a special place in the hearts of Cosmos fans. We'll keep our eyes open for more news about Pele's condition, and our thoughts and best will be with him and his family as he recovers.
