New York Cosmos vs. Indy Eleven: Preview

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

It's getting to be crunch time for the New York Cosmos, as the push to clinch a playoff spot gets serious. With just five games remaining in the NASL fall season, the club currently sits three points clear of fourth place Carolina, and eight points clear of fifth place Fort Lauderdale. The Strikers currently have a game in hand on their rivals from New York.

On Saturday, the Cosmos will host the league's worst side in need of three big points. There's really no reason the boys in green should be walking away from this one with anything but the maximum, and with Carolina and Fort Lauderdale meeting tonight, it's a golden opportunity to move one step closer to finally locking up a spot.

Health-wise, the Cosmos are looking better than they have in a considerable amount of time. Gio Savarese should be able to select something close to a full strength starting eleven, a luxury he just hasn't had since before the U.S. Open Cup run got underway. There should be little doubt which side can field the most talent on Saturday evening, and with the backing of a home crowd, hopefully the 'mos can get something going for their final five games.

Also on Saturday, the club will be giving away pink scarves to the first 4,000 people through the gate to raise awareness for breast cancer.
